This program was
developed to provide short-term Fulbright grants of two to six weeks to
qualified U.S. scholars. The program goals are to increase the number of U.S.
scholars in Fulbright academic exchanges and to promote increased
connections between U.S. and Mexican universities or institutions.
Grant Activity:
Fulbright Senior
Specialist activities will be designed to provide U.S. faculty and
professionals with opportunities to collaborate with professional
counterparts on curriculum and faculty development, institutional
planning and a variety of other activities. For example, in the grant
period of two to six weeks, specialists may:
• Conduct needs assessments & surveys.
• Take part in specialized academic programs or conferences in
conjunction with other activities.
• Consult with administrators and instructors of post-secondary
institutions on faculty development.
• Present lectures at graduate and undergraduate levels.
• Lead seminars or workshops at overseas academic
institutions.
• Develop and/or assess academic curricula or educational materials.
• Conduct teacher-training programs at the university level.
Note: Research is not funded via the Fulbright Senior Specialists
Program.

Requirements:
Language:
Fluent Spanish.
Degree
of studies:
A Ph.D. is preferred, or the equivalent professional/terminal degree at
the time of application, in addition to a minimum of five years of
teaching or professional experience in the field in which you are
applying.
For professionals and artists outside academe, recognized professional
standing and substantial professional accomplishments plus a minimum of
five years of professional experience in the field in which you are
applying.
(Note: Senior Specialists work with colleagues at Mexican academic
institutions. In the application, professionals and artists outside
academe should highlight: 1) experience as a college/university teacher
or trainer and/or 2) how their experience could benefit overseas
academic institutions).
Roster:
The Fulbright Senior Specialist Program differs from the traditional
Fulbright Scholar competition in that the Council for International
Exchange of Scholars (CIES) will build rosters of specialists in a
variety of fields through an open application process. Applicants
recommended by specialist peer review committees and approved by the J.
William Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board will become candidates for
Fulbright Senior Specialist awards. As countries request Fulbright
Senior Specialists through their local Fulbright Commission, candidates
will be matched with appropriate programs. When a request is received,
Fulbright Senior Specialist candidates will be contacted to ascertain
their availability for final consideration.
Benefits:
If the project is
approved, the Fulbright grant for the specialist will include a round-trip
plane ticket (from the US to MX), plus $200 USD honorarium per working
day. The Mexican host institution is responsible for paying for the
lodging, meals, and local transportation for the specialist during the
grant period (2 to 6 weeks).
